A South Londonderry man is incarcerated today at Lebanon County Correction facility following a standoff at the Clarion Hotel.

Sean Cavanaugh, a 33-year-old South Londonderry resident, first encountered police at the Clarion Hotel (625 Quentin Road) after they were dispatched around 5:45pm on Saturday, October 19, to assist another agency with locating Cavanaugh.

City of Lebanon Police said in a release that Cavanaugh was wanted for a mental health evaluation and was to be taken into custody. The release states that after police located Cavanaugh in a hotel room, he barricaded the door and began throwing furniture and other items from the balcony, with several thousand dollars of damage said to have occurred to the hotel room and three vehicles owned by hotel guests.

Cavanaugh is also accused of igniting and throwing several unnamed items at the police. Cavanaugh was said to have possessed a knife at the time of the incident and expressed an intent for self-harm. He is also accused of cutting off an ankle monitor from Lebanon County Probation.

City of Lebanon Police said that an hour-long negotiation with the Lebanon County Emergency Services Unit was not fruitful and Cavanaugh continued to throw items from the balcony with intent to hit officers, while also continuing to threaten self-harm.

The release states that the ESU forced entry into the hotel room around 1:40am and successfully took Cavanaugh into custody, after which he was first treated at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital and then taken to Lebanon County Correctional Facility on a Lebanon County Probation Detainer.

“The Lebanon City Police Department would like to thank all of the agencies that assisted during this incident,” said the department in the release.

Police said that Cavanaugh will now face charges of Aggravated Assault, Causing or Risking a Catastrophe, Arson, Criminal Mischief, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.

Cavanaugh was arraigned on Monday in front of Magisterial District Judge Maria Dissinger and remanded to Lebanon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.
