The Lebanon VA Medical Center will recognize National Vietnam War Veterans Day this Friday, March 29, with a number of ceremonies.

Veterans who served between November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to receive a lapel pin from the VA as a memento of the country’s thanks for their service.

There are a few ways that veterans can participate and receive their pin.

A ceremony will be held at 11:15am at the Lancaster Airport Terminal in Lititz featuring US Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) and the Liberty War Bird Association in a pinning ceremony (registration opens at 10:30am).

Another pinning ceremony featuring Senator Toomey will be held at 3pm at American Legion Post 217 in Berks County.

A cake-cutting ceremony will be held at 2pm at the Lebanon VA’s Building 17 Canteen Dining Center.

Pins will also be available from 9am to 3pm on Friday at community clinics in Lancaster, Mechanicsburg, Pottsville, Wyommissing, York, and Fort Indiantown Gap.

Additionally, Mission BBQ locations in Harrisburg, Wyommissing, and York will have pins available, in addition to information about the VA’s services. The Mission BBQ daylong Vietnam Veterans’ appreciation event runs from 11am to 9pm.

Update March 28: An additional pinning event has been announced for 3pm Friday to be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, specifically at the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial. (This event is not organized by the Lebanon VA as the other events in this post are, but it will feature the same pins.)

The Lebanon VA serves a nine-county area by providing medical care to the country’s veterans living nearby.

The Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 was signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 28, 2017. The act commemorates March 29, 1973, the day the last combat troops left Vietnam.

  1. Hello – we missed out on this. Is there another date/location this will be held or can his spouse pick it up? My dad was a career man – 27 years in the Army and a tour in Vietnam. Unfortunately he went into a nursing home this past December and is unable to leave to get it himself. My mom has her military id and we have his DD-214 papers. Please advise.
    Thank you.

  2. February 2018, husband, David, passed away at the age of 63. His rating was 80% and unemployable. Our 18 year old Grandson was the light in his life. Would I as his spouse be able to accept a pin in David’s behalf? I would like to give it to our Grandson who is an Eagle Scout and heading to Penn State ROTC next year.

    Thank you,
    Anna

  3. It depends where you are located, but my understanding is you can get them at any of the events listed above.
