In a press release distributed yesterday afternoon, Bob Phillips (R) announced that he will be seeking a third term as Lebanon County Commissioner. William Ames (R) also posted to Facebook this week that he will be seeking re-election.
Phillips and Ames both first ran in 2011 and were re-elected in 2015. The next election will take place on November 5, 2019, with the primary election on May 5, 2019.
Phillips serves as vice chairman for the Commissioners and Ames as chairman. Jo-Ellen Litz (D) serves as secretary, and is the only commissioner who does not appear to have announced a bid for re-election at present.
In the most recent election, Phillips received the highest share of the vote with 33.57%, compared to the next-highest (William Ames) with 28.44%.
In the Phillips’ campaign press release, his financial work is touted, with a recent “A” rating from Standards and Poors used as proof that the County is on a firm financial footing.
The County is now on a strong financial footing which will provide us the resources to address complex issues such public safety, opioid addiction crisis, enhanced 911 emergency responses and keeping Lebanon County a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
Bob Phillips
Phillips joined the Commissioners following a decades-long business career in town, where he is the owner and principal of the Robert J. Phillips Insurance Agency and the former development director for Good Samaritan Hospital. Phillips is also chairman of the Francis J. Dixon Foundation, one of Lebanon County’s most active philanthropies, and a 30-year member of the Lebanon Lions Club. Phillips lives in North Cornwall Township with his wife Brenda.
Ames also touted the “A” rating in his re-election announcement, citing his partnership with Phillips.

William Ames
Ames has been the Chief Operations Officer of Ames Services since 1987, with a career in the Derry Township School District and a construction venture before that. Ames lives in Annville with his wife. Prior to being elected in 2011, Ames served as Township Supervisor.
