The 8th annual Governor Dick Bouldering Competition will be held this weekend as a fundraiser for the park.

Update: Due to too much snow still remaining, the competition has been postponed until tomorrow.

Registration sign-in begins at 8:00am at the Education Center, climbing starts at 9:00am, and burritos/prizes/awards/raffle at 4:00pm.

A remote parking lot will be setup, with shuttles running between the main location and the remote lot. Visitors are asked kindly to refrain from walking on Pinch Road, which is rather tight and windy.

Proceeds go back to the park for trail work, capital improvement projects, bouldering improvements, and event underwriting.

Here’s video of last year’s competition:

The event is the creation of Adam Hartman, an Annville-Cleona graduate who began bouldering when he was a student at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport. Hartman serves as the South Central Pennsylvania Climbers representative to Governor Dick Park. Hartman is also the Central PA chapter chair of the American Alpine Club.

If you did not register but which to compete, there will be a short period 8am to 9am on Saturday when registration will be open at the site.

Two rain dates have already been chosen: Sunday November 18 and Saturday November 24. Bouldering in the rain… a very bad idea.

Can’t make it? Try following along at home – Governor Dick Bouldering is on Instagram, and they populate the chuckle-inducing hashtag, #GovernorDickPics.
