The culmination of a process that began in January 2017, Cedar Crest High School will host the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils this week for the group’s annual convention, beginning Thursday and ending Saturday with most activities at the Evergreen Road high school campus.

As an accommodation for the conference, Cedar Crest High School will have early dismissal on Thursday, and Friday will be an Act 80 day (no school for students).

The conference program will include a few speakers, workshops, a banquet and dance, and plenty of opportunities for informal learning and discussion along the way

Cedar Crest High School student council advisor Jane Hepler posted this photo of last minute prep.

Hepler serves as Program and Outreach Coordinator for the state group, and daughter Cyja will coincidentally serve as conference president. Cedar Crest High School student newspaper, The Talon, interviewed Cyja and other students involved with planning the event.

The Cedar Crest High School Student Council has 2 advisors and 28 members.

Cedar Crest hosted the PASC’s District 8 conference in 2015, which Governor Tom Wolf attended.

This weekend, students and chaperones will be staying at a number of area hotels, some in Manheim and some in Lebanon. The conference’s Friday night event will be held at the Expo center.

Lebanon Valley College is a sponsor of the event, and students will have an opportunity to tour the campus if they are so inclined.

Of note, PASC will be hosting next year’s national conference, at South Fayette High School in McDonald, PA.

The conference can be followed on Twitter at @PASC2018, and there’s additional info on the conference website.
