A fundraiser for the Fredericksburg community since 1991, Hinkelfest celebrates two things: the area’s Pennsylvania Dutch roots and the importance of the chicken (or Hinkel, in PA Dutch) for local jobs.
This year’s will be the 27th annual Hinkelfest, taking place September 14-16 at Fireman’s Park off Route 343. Proceeds benefit five Fredericksburg community organizations: Fire Company, Library, American Legion Auxiliary, Lions Club, and Community Association
Bell and Evans & CEO Scott Sechler have been longtime supporters of the event, with the company having grown out of the historical “Bell & Evans” farm which distributed into New York City via rail.
In addition to the BBQ chicken dinners, you’ll also find chicken a dozen other ways, plus traditional fair grub and street food. Salads and walking tacos have also been added new this year. Performances will include Brian Dean Moore on Friday, Pentagon on Saturday, and Andy Elvis Skrvik on Sunday. Wagon rides and other amusements are available, although paid separately (there is no admission for the event itself and free parking).
